The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) hosted the Honorary Awards and Thanksgiving Dinner at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong on 26 September 2025. The event aimed to express heartfelt appreciation to benefactors, alumni, and partners for their steadfast support of the University’s mission, while also recognising outstanding scholarship recipients.

With generous support from philanthropists, EdUHK awarded 780 scholarships totalling nearly HK$27 million in the 2024/25 academic year. These scholarships support high-achieving students in their pursuit of academic excellence and holistic development.

The dinner also served as a celebratory occasion to honour the distinguished individuals upon whom EdUHK conferred Honorary Doctorates and an Honorary Fellowship in 2025. Honorary Doctors Professor Lawrence J. Lau, Professor Justin Yifu Lin, Professor Kishore Mahbubani, and Professor Michael E. Mann, as well as Honorary Fellow Venerable Kuan Yun attended the event.

Presided over by EdUHK Council and EdUHK Foundation Chairman Dr David Wong Yau-kar and EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, the dinner brought together esteemed guests, including government officials, business leaders, education professionals, alumni, taught postgraduate students, faculty members, and scholarship awardees.

In his opening address, Dr Wong extended profound gratitude to the unwavering support of the community and highlighted the contributions of the EdUHK Foundation since its establishment. He added, ‘Education is a lifelong journey. Through their generosity, we have nurtured future educators and professionals who are not only academically accomplished but also socially conscious and globally minded, exemplified by our Honorary Award recipients. These contributions are vital to shaping a resilient, inclusive, and forward-looking society.’

Professor Lee congratulated the Honorary Award recipients for their outstanding contributions to society and their exemplary attributes of dedication, resilience, and profound knowledge, which the University strives to nurture in its students. He also stated, ‘I wish to express my genuine appreciation to all of the honoured contributors and supporters for partnering with us on this journey. Your dedication and generosity have been instrumental in advancing our mission, empowering us to harness new opportunities with assurance and a clear sense of purpose.’

Yuen Wing-man, a current fifth-year student in Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Chinese Language programme, shared her exchange experience at the University of Oxford through the EdUHK Academic Excellence Student Exchange Scholarship 2024-25.

Wing-man said, ‘I immersed myself in both the rich local culture and rigorous academic environment, which profoundly expanded my worldview. I am deeply grateful to EdUHK and our generous benefactors for their unwavering support, which has enabled me to explore new horizons and realise my full potential.’

Established in December 2014, the EdUHK Foundation aims to elevate teaching quality and research excellence through engaging community partnerships, upholding its commitment to educational advancement.
