The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) has received a generous donation of HK$2.95 million from the Sprinkles Charity Foundation to support the “Unity of Nature and Humanity: An Academic Research Project in Sustainability Education”. The initiative seeks to enhance awareness and action on environmental issues among students and the wider community through curriculum development, teacher training, and community engagement, while integrating traditional Chinese wisdom into modern education.

A cheque presentation ceremony was held at EdUHK’s Tai Po campus on 19 December 2025. The donation was presented by Dr Ma Jun, Chairman of the Sprinkles Charity Foundation, and received on behalf of the University by Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, President of EdUHK, along with Professor Ken Yung Kin-lam, Associate Vice President (Knowledge Transfer and Sustainability), and Dr Lai Chi-shing, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chinese Language Studies.

This pioneering research will integrate “Green Finance Education” with traditional ecological philosophy to construct a “Unity of Nature and Humanity” environmental education model. The project aims to establish a new paradigm for global sustainability education that combines cultural depth with an evidence-based foundation, further realising the Foundation’s vision of “benefiting humanity through ecological protection.”

Building on EdUHK’s past experience in producing environmental animations, the project will incorporate AI into the design of teaching materials and curricula, fostering ecological awareness in a vivid, engaging way. It will also explore the application of Chinese ecological concepts across different geo-cultural backgrounds, aligning with the Foundation’s vision to promote cross-regional exchange and extend the reach of green ideas.

Professor Lee expressed his sincere gratitude to the Foundation for its support. He stated, “The generous support from the Foundation not only demonstrate its recognition of EdUHK’s educational mission but also constitute profound support for the Hong Kong education sector and the sustainable development of our future society. EdUHK actively promotes and supports sustainable strategies in teaching, teacher education, and talent development, echoing the spirit of the United Nations 2030 Agenda and contributing to the building of a more equitable and resilient society.” He added that he was looking forward to working with the foundation to create a more sustainable future.

Dr Ma Jun expressed his delight in establishing a partnership with EdUHK, noting that the University’s professional strengths and rich experience in education will provide continuous momentum for the sustainable development of society.

The Sprinkles Charity Foundation has been dedicated to environmental education and research in green finance. In addition to organising the “Children’s Environmental Essay and Drawing Competition,” the Foundation has produced educational animations on environmental topics. This donation to EdUHK for the “Unity of Nature and Humanity” research continues the Foundation’s emphasis on education.
