The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) recently received a generous donation of HK$ 1 million from Pat Chun International Limited (Pat Chun) to establish the “Pat Chun Amy Ng Foundation for the Promotion of Chinese Culture to the Young Generation”. The foundation supports the University by conducting a series of Chinese cultural workshops between 2024 and 2028. The workshops allow EdUHK students to learn traditional craft techniques through interactive methods, understand traditional Chinese culture, and enhance cultural literacy. The foundation also provides opportunities for students to reflect on life and personal values through Chinese culture, jointly promoting and spreading Chinese traditional cultural arts.

The cheque presentation ceremony was held on 15 January 2025 at EdUHK. Dr Trevor Ng, Managing Director of Pat Chun International Limited, presented the cheque to Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, President of EdUHK and Director of the Centre for Religious and Spirituality Education.

The “Pat Chun Amy Ng Foundation for the Promotion of Chinese Culture to the Young Generation” provides funds for cultural workshops covering areas such as Chinese calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, tea art, paper cutting, pottery engraving, and traditional foods and condiments. More than 100 EdUHK students have participated in the programme, since its inception in 2024. Workshop participants explained that the calligraphy and paper cutting sessions offer deep experiential opportunities, enabling them to learn about and appreciate Chinese culture, thereby deepening their understanding of cultural heritage, also rediscovering the joy of childhood.

Professor Lee expressed gratitude for Pat Chun International Limited’s donation. He noted that these cultural workshops contribute to the holistic development of students, further promoting Chinese culture, enhancing their sense of identity and pride in their national heritage, and strengthening their sense of national identity.
